I write to let go, I paint to remember.
In early April, downtown Montreal is painted of a perfectly plain, colorless neutral gray, but the light that shines through the windows in the morning at this particular instant makes the black and white scene look just as colourful as one beautiful soul can be real.
Do you agree that the colours are not only to be seen? Widen your perceptions and you will see them even where they don’t seem to be.
Now close your eyes. Some colours need to be lived, heard and experienced with your heart, felt with your fingers maybe, to be fully appreciated and better understood. Just like caressing the contrast of the pure black of a stiff hair erecting from the softness of that light coloured skin pore that lives on his chin, among a few thousand more.
When I see the sun brushing the tip of each hair and lighting them up, I can’t help but thinking that they were waiting for the artist in me to notice their beauty and paint them as if it was the very first time, again.
Open your eye now, the third one. The one that allows you to feel what you see, to understand what you feel and to surrender your creative vulnerable self to the inspiration of the moment with a more aware and understood pencil stroke. Make it pure, make it real, make it count.
In the middle of the night, when the inspiration holds me so tight that the idea of sleeping never crosses my mind, I crave to paint that rhythm you awaken in me. These melodies that scale from the bottom of my heart up to the smiling corners of my lips. I get this urge to paint the beauty that exists in the way your whole being embodies the rhythm when your heart beats to the sound of your drums.
On a summer afternoon, when the storm dims the sun rays, when the sky is gray, I want to paint the way that you wear your skin when the heavy rain washes it clean. The contained excitement of your pores erecting from the coldness of the wind.
Portraying you is about offering a colour and a shape to this amount of love that counts more than I can express otherwise. It’s about freeing the emotion that’s being held under my tongue when we kiss, when we touch.
It’s about finding a way, a personal manner, to simply answer all these smiles back to you by turning them into a meaningful rendition.
It’s about finding the most accurate way to genuinely express the simplicity and the purity of my most truthful intentions. A window to my soul through which whoever look could see how much I love you.
